Some History of Speedway Fire/RescueSpeedway Fire/Rescue was started over thirty three years ago, by our Chief, Gil Short. He saw a need to provide protecton at race tracks, since he is a race car owner too. Additonaly, it seemed like a good way to advertise his business, A-1 Fire Equipment. Although both the sponser company, and the Fire Crew have gone through some name changes over the years, the mission, and goals have remained the same.

Some of our ResoursesNaturally, one of the biggest and best resourses, like any good fire department, are the Members. We combine our talents, and skills to teach each other. Of course, much of our learning comes from experiance too. We hold monthly meetings, and a collection of stories are told, and the situations can be analized to creat learning tools for the future.

In the past, it has been tried to have only company trucks to use in the fire rescue service. This however is a difficult thing for limited resourses of a small company. Lately, a couple of the members have been building, and operating their own rigs. This is also a hard thing to do one ones own personal budget, but it has proved to be a feasible soulution. We have established some basic standards for the rigs, so they seem to operate basicly the same. We are also putting a written SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for all of the drivers to follow. This includes the fact that only designated officers are allowed to drive the rigs in service.

Some of the qualificatons of the membershipWe have Nationally Certified Firefighters, EMT's, Emergency Rescue Technicians. Being one of the above is not a requirment to become a member of SFR, however, it gives us a great skill base to get some of our training. When some of us go to a school to enhance, or keep up the required training time to maintain our certifications, we bring back the trainig to the rest group.
